We are looking for a Band 4 Mental Health Support Worker to join the Bristol Early Intervention for Psychosis Service.
Bristol is an exciting city, rich in culture and arts with a great mix of vibrant city life and access to green spaces. The Early Intervention for Psychosis Service provides help and support to young people from 14 years to 35 years of age for 3 years following a first episode psychosis or for a limited period where there may be a possible psychosis.
The team is multidisciplinary, consisting of Peer Support Worker, Physical Health Worker, Mental Health Support Workers, Individual Placement Support Workers, Care coordinators with Occupational Therapy, Nursing or Social work registrations, Administrators, Consultant Psychiatrist, Team Manager, Senior Practitioners, Non Medical Prescribers, Psychologists, Cognitive Behaviour Therapists in Psychosis and many of the team are trained in Family Intervention for Psychosis.
The team act as a resource to the adult mental health community, CAMHS and inpatient services, by raising awareness of the needs of this client group, providing information and consultation about psychosis. It provides care coordination to individuals presenting with signs of a first episode of psychosis in line with local and national guidelines on Early Intervention, namely the Access and Waiting Time Standards for Early Intervention Services.
Main duties of the job
To undertake the role of mental health worker, supporting people with severe and enduring mental health needs. Following personal development planning and targeted training, the competent practitioner will be in a position to work more autonomously in supporting service users. As a result you will have developed a broad underpinning knowledge of Psychosis and other mental health diagnosis including depression, anxiety, mood disorders and emotional dysregulation including trauma issues, and have the ability to evaluate information and communicate effectively with a range of professionals. This might include:
- Behavioural activation and graded exposure work.
- Knowledge of available community services/signposting.
- Engagement/relationship building.
- Group planning + delivery
In addition the successful candidate will take part in the assessments of people referred to our service using the Comprehensive Assessment of an At Risk Mental State, an assessment tool widely used in Early Intervention Teams in the UK.
