Healthcare Support Worker Endoscopy

We are seeking a reliable and motivated individual to join our team on a part‑time basis, working 27 hours per week.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the day‑to‑day service. They will prepare environments for use during endoscopy lists and assist in all diagnostic and endoscopic procedures with guidance from a Registered Nurse, working within a competency framework and with support from the Directorate Professional Development Team. In conjunction with the Unit Manager and Registered Nurses, they will support, teach and guide other Health Care Assistants to achieve a suitable competency level.
Assist the Registered Nurse to provide a high standard of care to patients in the clinical areas. This includes monitoring patients in the recovery area and maintaining a patient’s airway during a diagnostic gastroscopy. Carry out a range of patient care tasks as directed, supported and supervised by a Registered Nurse.
This role will involve carrying out decontamination duties: clean, decontaminate and maintain a variety of endoscopes following departmental protocols to agreed standards and be aware of COSHH regulations and the importance of wearing PPE. In liaison with the Unit Manager and Decontamination Lead, maintain the overall management of endoscopes and reprocessing machines.
Work county‑wide as and when needed to meet the demands of the service.
The Endoscopy Unit is currently open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00.
Main duties of the job
- Demonstrate competence in handling, cleaning, decontaminating, tracking and maintaining specialist endoscopy equipment in accordance with local, national and Trust decontamination guidelines and policies.
- Demonstrate awareness of COSHH regulations and the importance of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when dealing with contaminated equipment or chemicals.
- Guide and support junior members of staff in their development and assist the Unit Manager in the training of all staff in the cleaning and reprocessing of endoscopes.
- Ensure that weekly samples are taken according to agreed protocols including daily machine tests and raise any concerns.
- Maintain patient dignity and privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain accurate and legible records.

Person Specification
Experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Direct Care or equivalent
- GCSE pass in English and Maths or equivalent
- Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant.
- Able to mentor and supervise other HCAs in the working environment. Reliable and punctual.
- Ability to cope with stress.
