Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Health Care Support Worker to join our team of healthcare professionals in the NHS. As a Senior Health Care Support Worker you will provide excellent care and support to patients undergoing Dialysis treatments primarily based at Bright. The role is part time and does not meet the salary threshold for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship; therefore sponsorship cannot be offered.
Responsibilities
- Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.
- Perform duties delegated in line with nursing care plans.
- Use knowledge, experience and understanding to make decisions within your area of responsibility.
- Carry out a range of clinical duties with minimal or no supervision, including, but not limited to: blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation, temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, glucose monitoring, collection and testing of urine, faecal and sputum samples, wound swabs, and other incidental tasks as required by your area of work.
- Participate in patient assessment and provide high quality holistic patient care, escalating concerns about patients to other clinical staff.
- Practice safe standards of care following Trust guidelines; maintain focus throughout the day with occasional interruptions.
- Provide clinical care in accordance with infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain the work environment in line with Trust infection control and patient safety policies.
- Develop skills to facilitate patient self‑care and independence.
- Promote health education specific to the clinical area and in line with national and local policies.
- Maintain accurate records of communication with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary team members, demonstrating appropriate communication skills.
- Ensure equipment and stores are maintained; take appropriate action if equipment is faulty.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
Education / Training / Qualifications
- Essential criteria:
- One of the following: Level 3 RQF, SCQF; City & Guilds 3; NVQ 3; BTEC National Diploma; or equivalent experience (minimum of 12 months).
- GCSE grade A‑C (grade 4 and above) or equivalent in English.
- GCSE grade A‑C (grade 4 and above) or equivalent in Maths.
- Desirable criteria:
- Completion of Band 3 Clinical Skills Training (venepuncture, cannulation, physiological measurements).
- Completion of the Care Certificate.
Knowledge and Experience
- Essential criteria:
- Previous experience as a Healthcare Support Worker in an acute hospital setting.
- Evidence of the ability to work as a member of a team.
- Good time‑management skills and prioritising work.
- Understanding and commitment to a caring approach to patients and relatives.
Skills and Abilities
- Essential criteria:
- Effective and appropriate communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic IT skills: Word, email, keyboard.
- Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately.
