General Summary

As workshop technician, your prime responsibility will be dismantling, inspecting, and rebuilding mechanical rotating equipment, mainly pumps. You will focus on client satisfaction and the performance of key internal stakeholders.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dismantle, inspect, and rebuild a range of mechanical rotating equipment, mainly pumps.
  • Inspect components and sub‑assemblies using engineering inspection techniques and tools.
  • Enter inspection sizing data into strip and build reports.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Previous experience as a fitter technician in a heavy industry or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to measure and record dimensional data using inspection tools such as vernier calipers and micrometers.
  • Machining skills using manual lathes preferred.
  • “Can‑do” attitude with strong drive.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build internal relationships.
  • Sound knowledge of a variety of machinery.
  • Proficiency reading engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Prepared to constructively challenge performance and suggest continuous improvement.
  • Effective communication in spoken and written English.

Education and Experience

  • Mechanical apprenticeship essential.
  • SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering essential.
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related field desirable.

Physical Demands

  • Required daily to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, and see. Close vision required for computer work.
  • Required occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Required daily to use hands, fingers, and arms to reach (operate a computer and telephone).
  • Required occasionally to lift or move light to moderate objects.
  • Required occasionally to travel (usually by air or road; may need to sit for extended periods).

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work with moderate noise in a business office environment with computers, phone, and printers.
  • Ability to work in an open‑plan office or an individual office.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit in a car or on a plane for extended periods.
