Overview

We are an in-house Electrical Construction Team looking for Low Voltage or High Voltage Electrical Construction Fitters to join our team in Southern England. The role involves constructing electrical apparatus within substations on the electricity distribution network from 11kV up to 132kV. Safety is our number one priority and we work in an environment that encourages consultation among all personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-voltage construction projects in a live electricity substation environment in line with operational safety rules and safety legislation.
  • Install and commission new CT metering apparatus.
  • Operate telehandlers, mewps and construct mobile scaffolds (full training will be provided).
  • Create a personal development plan with guidance from your line manager, reviewed regularly to shape your career path at SSE.
  • Apply knowledge of installing electrical systems, containment, cabling, plant and small wiring.
  • Maintain a high regard for safety, understand CDM regulations and demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Use experience with DC battery systems, internal panel wiring modification, multicore cable terminating and glanding, wiring circuit breakers, CTs/VTs to marshalling kiosks and control panels, AC/DC wiring and replacing 33kV outdoor circuit breakers and isolators.

Qualifications

  • A full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and location; extensive travel across our network area is required.
  • Ability to work safely in a live substation environment from 11kV to 132kV.
  • Experience installing electrical systems, containment, cabling, plant and small wiring.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of the electricity distribution network and experience working in live electricity substation environments from 11kV to 132kV.
  • Previous electricity network operational authorisations.
  • Training and qualifications in scaffold, telehandler, furzeweld, working at heights, confined space, asbestos, COSHH, Loler and SMSTS.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: £36,139 – £43,188. Overtime and travel time available. 37 hour working week. Company vehicle provided. Training to gain further authorisations and further career progression. Full PPE and tools supplied. London allowance of £3,000 if based at Slough or West London.
