Job Summary

New Meaning Training Berkshire is seeking a Construction Teaching Assistant to support young people aged 15‑25 in developing practical construction skills within a curriculum‑focused setting. This full‑time, permanent role involves working closely with tutors to deliver vocational training in carpentry, tiling, painting & decorating, and multi‑trade workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Assist tutors with the delivery of construction training, reinforcing learning in 1:1 or small group settings.
  • Encourage and guide learners to develop practical skills through hands‑on activities and workshop tasks.
  • Maintain a safe, engaging learning environment and support learners in following health & safety expectations.
  • Adapt task instructions to meet individual learning needs.
  • Keep accurate records of learner progress and engagement, contributing to reviews and next‑step planning.
  • Work in line with NMT safeguarding, behaviour, and support policies.
  • Support learners with organisation, attendance, motivation, teamwork, and communication skills.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Hands‑on experience in construction or a related trade; formal qualifications are not required.
  • Confidence in supporting young people to complete workshop tasks or practical assignments.
  • Familiarity with a range of SEN needs, ideally with experience working with learners with additional needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with 15‑25 year olds.
  • Proactive, encouraging attitude with good teamwork skills.
  • Basic IT literacy (Microsoft365).
  • Full UK driving licence desirable but not essential.
  • Subject to an Enhanced DBS check (including a Children’s Barred List check) and satisfactory professional references.
