Job Description

We are looking for a Social Worker to join our Duty and Assessment service in the Wealden team. This is an engaging role working with children and young people aged 0-19, conducting family assessments, Section 47 enquiries, private fostering assessments, and assessments of homeless young people. The work is short‑term with transfer to Family Support and Youth Support for longer‑term interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with children, young people and families, using creativity, compassion and authority to build relationships.
  • Conduct assessments to inform effective plans.
  • Support complex and emotionally challenging situations while maintaining professional boundaries.

Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with children and families.
  • Experience completing assessments that form the basis of effective plans.
  • Knowledge of legal and policy frameworks that inform social work practice.

Salary and Working Conditions

Salary is based on Council Salary Scales plus a time‑limited market supplement, subject to review in July 2026. The role may be part‑time or term‑time; the starting salary will be pro‑rata. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services.
