An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Purchase Ledger Clerk to join a growing and busy finance team on a part‑time basis. Working 20 hours per week, this role offers flexibility around how the hours are worked, however, Tuesdays are an essential working day.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong purchase ledger experience who enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, timely financial administration.
Working closely with the Accounts Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the purchase ledger function, maintaining supplier relationships, processing invoices, and supporting the wider finance team.
Job Overview
- Process purchase invoices, matching them to purchase orders and ensuring the correct VAT and CIS treatments are applied.
- Process proforma invoices and chase outstanding VAT invoices where required.
- Raise and reconcile purchase orders within the accounting system.
- Handle day‑to‑day queries from suppliers, subcontractors, and internal departments.
- Update contractor payment information using internal tracking systems.
- Monitor company credit card expenditure and reconcile receipts against statements.
- Prepare fortnightly and monthly supplier payment runs in line with company procedures.
- Process payments through the accounting system and prepare them for bank approval.
- Reconcile supplier statements and investigate any outstanding invoices or discrepancies.
- Set up new supplier and subcontractor accounts, including CIS verification where required.
- Monitor aged creditors and support the Accounts Manager with additional finance tasks.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in a Purchase Ledger or Accounts Payable role is essential.
- AAT qualified or currently studying towards AAT is desirable.
- Knowledge of CIS and VAT processes would be advantageous.
- Experience using an accounting package, ideally Xero.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional, reliable, and able to handle confidential information with discretion.
