Job Introduction
An opportunity has arisen for an Operator (Fitting) based at our Redruth Depot. As an Operator you will assist a Craftsperson with general site work associated with the repair, maintenance and construction of plant and switchgear up to 33kV. In addition you will be required to undertake substation inspections. Some electrical experience would be an advantage, however full training will be given.
Qualifications
You will need to hold English & Maths GCSE (1-9/G‑A*) or equivalent qualification deemed to be at the same level in these subjects, such as Functional Skills. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
Main Responsibilities
The work involves being away from the depot, normally working in a team of two people. The environment requires you to react quickly, decisively and responsibly. You will also need to be flexible in your approach to assist the team in meeting its objectives. The role is suitable for someone who enjoys the demands of a physical outdoor environment.
Ideal Candidate
You must be mobile throughout the area, as you may also be required to undertake out of hours standby duties, therefore a full driving license is required. Operationally we require you to live within approximately 30 minutes of the depot you are applying for.
Safety and Physical Requirements
For some National Grid positions that require working at height or using fall arrest devices there is an upper weight limit of 135 kg due to the maximum safe working load of the safety equipment used.
