Primary Teaching Assistant

Location: MiddlesbroughSalary: £90 £120 per day (dependent on experience)Start Date: September 2026Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible

A welcoming and supportive primary school in Middlesbrough is seeking a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant to join their team. This Primary Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children across EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 and helping them achieve their full potential.

The successful Primary Teaching Assistant will work closely with class teachers to support pupils in their learning, both within the classroom and through targeted 1:1 and small group interventions. As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in creating a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities of the Primary Teaching Assistant:

  • Supporting teaching and learning across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.
  • Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Assisting with lesson preparation and classroom organisation.
  • Supporting pupils with varying learning abilities and additional needs where required.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil engagement.
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills.
  • Supporting classroom activities, educational visits and school events where required.
  • Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.

The Ideal Primary Teaching Assistant Will:

  • Have previous experience working within a primary school setting.
  • Be patient, nurturing and enthusiastic.
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be confident supporting pupils across different year groups and abilities.
  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEND (desirable).
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).
  • Have a fully checkable work history.
