Salary: HC07 £32,061 – £36,363 per annum (£19,497 to £22,122 per annum pro rata)

Contract: Fixed Term Contract to 30 June 2028

Hours: 22.50

Location: Leominster

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Support Worker to join our team, working directly with vulnerable children, young people, and their families across a range of settings, including homes, schools, colleges and community environments. This dynamic role delivers evidence‑based therapeutic interventions that support positive outcomes for children and young people, including those with special educational needs, physical disabilities and life‑limiting conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver relationship‑based and restorative practice to vulnerable children, young people, and families.
  • Assess needs, build resilience and improve outcomes using evidence‑based approaches.
  • Manage a complex caseload, completing Family Help Assessments (including Section 17) and developing SMART plans.
  • Lead Family Help review meetings at Targeted Early Help or Child in Need level.
  • Coordinate multi‑agency support, make referrals, and work with partners to ensure effective interventions.
  • Carry out safeguarding duties, complete specialist assessments (e.g. young carers) and advocate for children and families.
  • Deliver parenting programmes, engage family networks, and support children with additional needs to access education, activities and services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records and contribute to multi‑agency meetings.
  • Participate in supervision, training and, where required, court processes.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 qualification (or above) in a relevant field such as health, education, child development, youth work or social care with a commitment to continued professional development.
  • Experience working with children, young people and families, including lone working, within social care and Early Help frameworks.
  • Proven experience managing complex caseloads, acting as a lead worker and coordinating multi‑agency support.
  • Confidence in using evidence‑based therapeutic approaches such as motivational interviewing and solution‑focused practice, and ideally experience delivering parenting programmes (e.g. Triple P or Solihull).
  • Strong skills in building trusting relationships, listening to the child and advocating effectively.
  • Capability to produce high‑quality assessments, reports and plans and chair multi‑agency meetings.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, ability to prioritise workloads and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and ability to assess and respond to risk.
  • Confidence in challenging partners and providers constructively to ensure high standards of support.
  • Highly motivated, adaptable, resilient and flexible about working hours and environments, including travel and home visits.
  • Own transport and willingness to work evenings and weekends where required.
