Become part of our dynamic Transmission and Distribution business, which boasts approximately 60 experts across the UK & Ireland. Collaborate with top-tier electrical, civil and mechanical engineers to deliver a variety of captivating projects, from small initiatives to large-scale ventures such as National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade all the way from concept to completion. Due to an exciting period of growth we are looking to hire an experienced Senior Protection & Control Design Engineer. You will be responsible for developing protection and control system designs, preparing engineering deliverables, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with client specifications and international standards. Here’s what you’ll do: Prepare Protection & Control engineering designs for HV/EHV substations (11kV–400kV or above)Develop Protection Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), AC/DC Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, Terminal Plans, Cable Schedules, and Interconnection DiagramsDesign Protection Relay Panels, Control Panels, Annunciation Panels, Metering Panels, and RTU/SCADA interfacesPrepare Protection Relay Settings philosophy and coordinate with system studies where applicablePerform protection coordination and review relay configurationsPrepare engineering calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, and battery sizing (where applicable)Coordinate with Civil, Primary, Telecom, and SCADA engineering teamsReview vendor drawings and ensure compliance with project specificationsSupport FAT, SAT, commissioning, and technical issue resolutionEnsure designs comply with IEC, IEEE, National Grid, and client-specific standardsSupport project execution by meeting quality, safety, and schedule requirements Enjoy the Perks. Qualifications Here’s what we’re looking for: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.Experience in HV/EHV Substation Protection & Control DesignKnowledge of protection schemes for Transmission and Distribution substationsExperience with protection relays from manufacturers such as Siemens, GE, ABB/Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, or SELProficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft OfficeExcellent communication and coordination skills Preferred Skills Knowledge of IEC 61850 and substation automation systemsFamiliarity with SCADA, RTU, SAS, and communication protocolsAbility to independently deliver complete Protection & Control engineering packagesExperience working in multidisciplinary engineering environmentsExperience in UK, Middle East, Europe, or international utility projectsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills Additional Information Interested in the role or curious about life at AECOM?
