Senior Mental Health Practitioner

About the Role

We are recruiting a compassionate and experienced Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join the CNWL’s Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services.This role forms part of the national Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Programme (Green Paper initiative), supporting children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties within educational settings.You will work collaboratively with schools, colleges, families, and multidisciplinary professionals to provide evidence-based interventions and promote a whole-school approach to emotional wellbeing.

Behavioural difficulties

  • Carry out mental health assessments, risk assessments, care planning, and reviews

Hold a caseload of children and young people with mild to moderate mental health presentationsProvide individual and group interventions in line with CYP-IAPT principlesSupport schools and colleges to develop and embed a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeingOffer consultation, guidance, and support to education staff and external professionalsProvide supervision and support to Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and trainee staffSupport safeguarding processes and escalate concerns appropriatelyContribute to service development, audits, outcome monitoring, and quality improvement initiativesMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and outcome measures

Registration with an appropriate professional body

  • Extensive experience working within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

Experience delivering evidence-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health difficulties

Strong safeguarding knowledge and experience

  • Excellent communication, assessment, and organisational skills

Ability to work collaboratively across education and healthcare settings

Formal CBT or CYP-IAPT training

  • Experience delivering psychoeducational workshops or therapy groups

Experience working directly with schools and educational settingsExperience providing clinical supervision or training to staff

Work within a supportive and collaborative CAMHS environment

  • Access ongoing training, supervision, and professional development
