Senior LV Design Engineer | Electrical Design | Infrastructure

Westlakes Recruit is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior LV Design Engineer to join a leading engineering organisation delivering innovative electrical solutions across the UK’s infrastructure sector.

This is an excellent opportunity to take on a senior technical role, supporting the design and delivery of low voltage (LV) electrical systems across a diverse portfolio of projects within the water, energy, nuclear, pharmaceutical and industrial sectors.

You’ll play a key role in mentoring engineers, leading technical delivery and working closely with project teams to develop safe, compliant and practical engineering solutions.

The Role

As a Senior LV Design Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, supporting LV Design Engineers while ensuring designs are delivered to the highest quality, on programme and within budget.

Working closely with Project Managers, clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you’ll review electrical designs, provide technical assurance and lead the successful delivery of complex LV engineering solutions.

The role also offers opportunities to lead site migration projects, providing engineering expertise while ensuring minimal disruption to client operations.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to LV Design Engineers.
  • Review and approve LV electrical designs, calculations and engineering documentation.
  • Support the development of innovative, practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and client specifications.

Project Delivery

  • Work closely with Project Managers and Project Leads to monitor project progress.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed safely, on time and within budget.
  • Support multidisciplinary project teams throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Manage engineering priorities across multiple concurrent projects.

Electrical Design

  • Produce and review electrical schematics and design calculations.
  • Support the design and specification of Low Voltage electrical assemblies.
  • Carry out technical assessments and compliance reviews.
  • Ensure designs meet all statutory, regulatory and client requirements.

Site Support

  • Attend client sites to assess existing LV installations and prepare compliance reports.
  • Support installation, commissioning and technical problem solving.
  • Provide engineering advice during project delivery and commissioning activities.
  • Assist with fault finding and technical investigations where required.

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Mentor and develop junior engineers.
  • Share technical knowledge and promote engineering best practice.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering function.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive working environment.

About You

We’re keen to speak with experienced LV Design Engineers who enjoy combining technical expertise with leadership and mentoring responsibilities.

Essential

  • Minimum five years’ experience delivering Low Voltage electrical design projects.
  • Strong technical understanding of LV electrical assemblies and systems.
  • Experience producing and reviewing electrical schematics and design calculations.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and provide engineering guidance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering standards and compliance requirements.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience working across infrastructure, utilities, energy or industrial sectors.
  • Previous experience leading complex LV migration or upgrade projects.
  • Professional membership or working towards Chartered status.
