Our client, a well-established franchise-approved commercial vehicle dealer group with multiple sites nationwide, is seeking a highly motivated Vehicle Maintenance Unit Manager to oversee their VMU in Didcot. Duties
- Lead and manage the Vehicle Maintenance Unit, overseeing daily workshop operations to meet customer fleet demands
- Control labour costs and manage third-party contractor utilisation
- Ensure compliance with safety audits and contractor working codes
- Plan and optimise facilities, bays, diagnostics, and tools to maximise workshop efficiency
- Collaborate with senior management on investments in workshops, facilities, and HR resources
- Regularly review and adapt workshop service pricing strategies
- Monitor and report on workshop performance, including retail sales, warranty, and internal contracts
- Oversee WIP management and cash control
- Recruit, induct, and develop workshop staff, ensuring high levels of motivation and retention
- Set and review employee targets, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Maintain excellent communication with team members and customers, ensuring high standards of service delivery
Requirements
- Level 3 qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, IMI) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (light or heavy)
- Previous supervisory or managerial experience within a workshop environment
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication skills, resilient, and capable of motivating a team
- Strong organisational and time management skills, able to prioritise effectively
- HGV driving licence is highly advantageous but not essential
- Knowledge of fleet management and workshop operational metrics
