UK Networks Services (UKNS) is expanding rapidly and is looking for experienced Grid Connections Engineers to support our customers’ connection to the UK’s electricity network. Two roles are available – one remote, one in the Bishops Stortford office – with flexible working patterns.
Responsibilities
- Use power‑systems modelling software (ETAP, SINCAL, IPSA) to identify electrical capacity (thermal, voltage and fault level) on distribution and transmission networks.
- Create and maintain strong relationships with customers, DNOs, IDNOs and ICPs.
- Design innovative grid‑connection solutions using our in‑house control systems.
- Manage the end‑to‑end grid‑connection process and provide expert support.
- Prepare engineering drawings and technical reports (grid compliance, single‑line diagrams).
- Represent UKNS at industry events.
- Assess connection offers for technical, regulatory and commercial compliance and risk.
Requirements
- Significant experience in LV & HV electrical distribution network design.
- Strong background in the technical DNO connection offer process using power‑systems software.
- Experience with demand and generation connections, HV and EHV.
- Detailed knowledge of connection processes and associated standards (CCCMS, ECCR).
- Experience with the NERS design approval process with DNO/IDNO/ICP is an advantage.
- Proficiency with power‑systems tools such as WinDebut, IPSA, ETAP, SINCAL, ELEK Cable HV, ELEK Safe Grid, AutoCAD or equivalents.
- Clear communication with senior management and customers.
- Strong technical and mathematical skills.
- Ability to self‑start, work without direct supervision, and support company certification through good governance.
- Right to work in the UK – the role is not sponsored.
- Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK for client and site meetings.
Key Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (HNC/HND considered).
- Professional registration an advantage (IEng/CEng).
- IOSH working safety or managing safely qualification.
- Formal training in power‑systems modelling an advantage.
