We wish to appoint a Senior Fellow in Foot and Ankle Surgery to commence in August 2027. This post is based in the Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital which opened in May 2014. The post holder will be required to work flexibly within the department.
The post holder will be involved in a busy foot and ankle service within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at North Bristol NHS Trust. They will report to Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons Mr Harries, Mr Hepple, Mr M Dahill & Mr Robinson. Previous experience in foot and ankle surgery is required. Participation in the department’s research and audit programmes is expected. Candidates should be at the stage of a senior trainee—post exam—or immediate post CSST.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for the day‑to‑day medical and surgical care of orthopaedic day‑case and inpatient patients, and will assist in theatres for both routine and specialist orthopaedic cases. They will also contribute to the department audit programme and ongoing research programmes, and see a wide range of cases as part of a consultant‑led team.

Essential
- MBBS
- Full registration with the GMC and a licence to practice
Desirable
- MRCS or working towards MRCS or equivalent
Work Experience
Essential
- Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
- Completed pre‑registration year (or equivalent outside the UK)
- Not more than 3 years’ experience as a SHO
- Evidence of training progression
Desirable
- ATLS qualification
- Evidence of postgraduate activities
- Prior experience in orthopaedics, at least 6 months at SHO level
- Interest in pursuing a surgical or A&E career
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Essential
- Willingness to seek help from senior colleagues as appropriate
- Competent in history taking and examination skills
