We are seeking a Nursing Associate to join our Woodbank Female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Stepping Hill Hospital. This role focuses on trauma‑informed care and supports patient recovery.
Main Duties of the Job
Key Responsibilities of the Post:
- Provide support to enable patients to engage in meeting their health needs, including arranging initial appointments, attending with the service user, contacting them by phone, and enlisting other services.
- Support patients whose health and wellbeing is at risk, acting upon and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Provide health promotion to patients, understanding the relationship between mental health and physical health, enhancing overall wellbeing, and promoting parity of esteem.
- Undertake physical health checks and report concerns appropriately.
- Perform venipuncture after relevant training and ongoing guidance.
- Refer onto expert services in the community where a need has been identified.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade that may be required.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
- Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC Register with a Foundation Degree.
- GCSEs Grade C or above in Maths and English Language or equivalent.
Experience
- Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs.
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.
- Experience in the speciality area.
Knowledge
- Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate within the inter‑disciplinary team and how the role may contribute to service development.
- Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice.
- Knowledge of when to seek advice and elevate to the appropriate professional for expert help.
- Understanding of requirements for NMC professional revalidation.
- Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities.
- Ability to organise and prioritise own delegated workload.
- Ability to deal with non‑routine and unpredictable nature of workload and patient contact.
- Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non‑verbal) with patients, relatives, carers and all members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Ability to develop effective and appropriate relationships with people, their families, carers and colleagues.
- Ability to support, supervise, assess and act as a role model to nursing associate students, other learners and health care support workers as required.
