Main duties of the job

The post holder will work across all sections of the pharmacy service – dispensary, ward/clinical pharmacy, education & training, and technical services. The role requires:

• Contributing to the development of pharmaceutical services and promoting high standards of professional practice.
• Delivering a clinical commitment during all rotations.
• Participating in an internal structured training programme and mentorship scheme.

Person specification

Education and qualifications

• Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• M Pharm or equivalent.
• Completion of all elements of the Foundation Stage 1 PG Dip (Certificate) or an equivalent qualification.
• Non‑Medical Prescriber qualification.

Skills and abilities

• Work methodically under pressure.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with all disciplines, colleagues, and patients.
• Deal sympathetically and courteously with patients and the general public.
• Work both as part of a team and independently.
• Prioritise and manage own workload and that of junior staff.
• Perform hands‑on aseptic work.
• Provide CPD and demonstrate continuous professional development.

Experience

• Training and development of junior staff.
• Use of own initiative and dealing with queries from department users.
• Direct interaction with the public, senior clinicians, and health service staff.
• Recent clinical or ward pharmacy experience.
• Understanding of formulary, DUR, and clinical trial issues.
• Computer literacy and knowledge of health and safety issues.
• Line management or supervisory experience.
• Flexibility with work schedule changes and ability to perform late duty, weekend duties, and bank holidays rota.
• Interest in developing others and expanding knowledge.
• Aware of equal opportunities principles.
