Laing O’Rourke is supporting the transformation of the UK’s electricity network through the Great Grid Upgrade, and we’re looking for a Senior Electrical Design Manager to play a leading role on the Chesterfield substation project.
This is an opportunity to sit at the centre of a nationally significant EHV scheme, shaping design strategy, influencing outcomes, and helping modernise critical infrastructure needed for a net‑zero future.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading electrical design management across a complex EHV substation project
- Providing technical leadership across internal teams, designers, and supply chain partners
- Managing design assurance, compliance and integration, from early design through to delivery
- Working closely with construction and project leadership to ensure buildability and programme alignment
- Acting as a key interface with the client and other external stakeholders
What you’ll bring
- Strong experience in EHV / HV substation design, ideally within major infrastructure programmes
- A solid grounding in UK standards, safety, and regulatory requirements for transmission assets
- The confidence to lead design conversations, challenge constructively, and influence at senior level
- A collaborative mindset, comfortable working across multi‑disciplinary and multi‑organisational teams
- Experience balancing technical detail with programme, cost and delivery priorities
