JOB ROLE OF THE CONTROLS AND INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER LEAD
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Control & Instrumentation Engineer Lead to join a well‑established and highly successful Energy from Waste operation. The site plays a vital role in converting residual waste into sustainable energy, supplying electricity and heat to the local area while supporting environmental and operational excellence.

Non‑Negotiable Requirements of the Control & Instrumentation Engineer Lead
- Experience working within an Energy from Waste, power generation, process manufacturing, chemical, utilities, marine, heavy industrial or similar environment.
- Strong experience maintaining, calibrating and fault‑finding industrial control and instrumentation systems.
- Experience working with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), instrumentation and plant control equipment.
- Knowledge of preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance methodologies.
- Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental procedures within an industrial setting.
- Experience supervising contractors and coordinating maintenance activities.
Desirable Requirements for the Control & Instrumentation Engineer Lead
- Experience maintaining Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
- Knowledge of boilers, turbines, pumps, motors, compressors and other process plant equipment.
- Experience working with cranes, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics and gearbox‑driven systems.
- Previous experience developing and maintaining CMMS systems.
- Experience supporting plant outages, shutdowns and maintenance planning activities.
- HNC, HND or Degree qualification in Control & Instrumentation, Engineering or a related discipline.
Responsibilities of the Control & Instrumentation Engineer Lead
- Ensuring all control and instrumentation systems are operated, maintained, tested and calibrated in line with statutory and operational requirements.
- Managing corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance activities across the plant.
- Supporting planned maintenance outages and responding to unscheduled breakdowns.
- Maintaining and calibrating specialist equipment including DCS, CEMS and associated control systems.
- Supporting upgrades, modifications and new installation projects across the facility.
- Working closely with Operations, Maintenance and external contractors to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
- Developing and maintaining the site CMMS alongside the Maintenance Manager and wider engineering team.
- Supporting compliance with all health, safety and environmental legislation and company policies.
