Job Overview
The ideal candidate will have combined a progressive career within the fire service, culminating in a leadership role (EG Watch Commander) with commercial experience gained in the Hospitality/Retail/Property/Facilities sector. As the Fire Safety Manager for Stonegate, you will be the Fire Safety conscience across three business models and will regularly be asked to make recommendations that are both legally compliant and financially astute.
This national role involves travel and overnight stays, overseeing statutory fire compliance, managing a heavy workload, and balancing reactive and proactive safety initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee statutory fire compliance, including Planned Maintenance Visits, in partnership with the Head of Compliance (Property).
- Act as a subject‑matter expert, providing technical advice to contractors and facilities managers.
- Manage statutory notice tracker to ensure all statutory notices are resolved in a timely, cost‑effective, and legal manner, limiting pub closure and avoiding prosecution.
- Lead the development and maintenance of the Fire Safety dashboard, collating and analysing data from fire risk assessments, third‑party audits, regional manager checks, late night audits, statutory notices and past incidents.
- Serve as the primary contact for fire safety across all three business models, informing the company of changing legislation and safety trends.
- Network with enforcing authorities, third parties and primary authority websites.
- Lead and support value‑adding and cost‑benefit projects (e.g., low‑cost capacity opportunities).
- Communicate at all levels, from pub teams and operators to the board.
- Use a prioritisation framework (Eisenhower Matrix) to manage workload.
- Audit and assess fire risk in simple and complex premises.
- Prepare case files and provide expert witness statements under the Fire Safety Order.
- Advise on architects/building plans with project managers.
- Author technical documents such as specifications and standards for fire safety systems.
Qualifications
- Progressive fire service career, culminating in a leadership role.
- Commercial experience as a Fire Safety Manager in hospitality, retail, property or facilities sector.
- SFJ Level 3 certificate in fire safety or equivalent Level 4 Diploma in fire safety for complex premises (including licensed premises, BS9999 and Building Regulations).
- Affiliation with an accredited industry‑recognised safety body.
- Current driving licence with capability for national travel.
- Strong networking skills and proven ability to work with enforcing authorities.
- Experience in audit, assessment, and risk‑based approach to fire safety.
