Job Description
The Machine Operator/FLT is responsible for operating and maintaining machinery within a manufacturing environment, ensuring production targets are met whilst adhering to health and safety standards. The role includes the loading, unloading, and movement of materials using a forklift truck, maintaining product quality and efficiency throughout the production process. Previous steel industry experience is beneficial.
Job Duties
- Operate production machinery safely and efficiently according to established procedures and instructions.
- Load and unload materials using a forklift truck in compliance with safety regulations.
- Carry out routine inspections and maintenance checks on machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor production output and quality, reporting any defects or issues to the relevant team.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities and machine performance.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies and procedures, including the safe operation of forklift equipment.
- Assist with the organisation and storage of materials in the warehouse or production area.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
- Work cooperatively with team members to meet production deadlines and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid forklift truck (FLT) counterbalance operator certificate or licence.
- Basic understanding of machinery operation within a manufacturing setting.
Education
- Minimum of GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in English and Mathematics.
Experience
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment operating machinery.
- Proven experience in operating a forklift truck safely and efficiently.
Knowledge and Skills
- Good awareness of health and safety regulations and practices.
- Ability to operate machinery following detailed instructions and safety guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills to complete production records accurately.
- Good communication skills to report issues clearly and work effectively within a team.
- Physical fitness and stamina to undertake manual handling and prolonged periods of standing or walking.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional training or certification in machinery maintenance or manufacturing processes.
- Experience working within a fast-paced production environment.
Working Conditions
- Work takes place primarily in a manufacturing facility with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- The role requires adherence to strict health and safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Shift patterns may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends depending on production requirements.
- The role involves manual handling duties and operating machinery for extended periods.
- Temporary position with full-time hours, offering the opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic production environment.
- Monday to Friday early finish at 1530 Friday
