As a Traffic and Transportation Technician, you will work on projects that enhance road safety, improve traffic signals, and upgrade pedestrian and cycling facilities, as well as contribute to major schemes across the city. Your work will have a direct impact on how people move around Derby every day.
This is a career grade role, giving you the support and opportunities to develop your skills and progress to higher grades as your experience grows. The Opportunity
- Supporting the design, management and implementation of traffic and transport projects, both in the city centre and within wards
- Helping to keep the city moving safely and efficiently through means such as traffic signals, signalling and lining improvements, and traffic regulation orders
- Assisting with projects that improve accessibility, safety and sustainability
- Responding to day‑to‑day traffic‑related enquiries from residents, investigating issues and offering solutions
About You
- An interest in traffic, transport, or civil engineering, with the willingness to learn and develop skills
- Good problem‑solving abilities and an eye for detail
- Strong communication skills, confident working with colleagues, contractors, and members of the public
- The ability to organise workload and manage competing priorities
- A proactive and flexible approach, enthusiastic to be part of a collaborative team
- IT skills, including experience using standard office software
