We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Addlestone, Surrey. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with a range of additional needs and who thrives in a nurturing, structured environment.
Key Responsibilities as a Learning Support Assistant
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH needs, speech & language difficulties, or global developmental delay.
- Implement personalised strategies and follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs).
- Use a calm, patient approach to help pupils regulate emotions and stay engaged in learning.
- Support communication, sensory needs, and independence skills using tailored resources and interventions.
- Assist the class teacher and SENCO in adapting activities and creating inclusive, accessible lessons.
- Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, and confidence in all pupils.
About You
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN (school, specialist provision, outreach, youth work or care settings).
- A calm, empathetic, and supportive nature with a genuine passion for SEN education.
- Ability to build trusting relationships and use a consistent, structured approach.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn specific SEN strategies (e.g. sensory regulation, visual supports, PECs, Makaton, de-escalation techniques).
- (Preferred) Experience in autism support, behaviour mentoring, or complex needs.
