Job Description
Your role:
Graphic Artists are responsible for delivering distinctive graphics and other visual story-telling components across all platforms for The Times and The Sunday Times. They will bring stories to life with clean, clear and engaging graphics, and push the boundaries to find new and exciting ways of delivering world-class journalism while ensuring all output remains true to The Times and The Sunday Times aesthetics. We offer a balanced hybrid work model, combining office-based and remote work.
Day to day you will:
- Successfully manage a productive relationship with the graphics editor, the executive graphics editor and senior editors as well as designers, graphics artists and journalists across the newsroom.
- Pitch and create original graphics that enliven our journalism and provide inspiration to senior editors and journalists.
- Able to translate and execute a graphics brief successfully and to strict deadlines.
- Follow current affairs and understand the papers perspectives and how they differ from one another.
- Be at the forefront of emerging technologies and trends in print and digital graphics formats.
- Work a variety of shifts across 7 days in news, features and sport sections including weekend and late shifts.
What we’re looking for from you:
- Experience in publishing at a newspaper or magazine.
- Proficient in industry standard design applications, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator with a knowledge of After Effects and a 3D software.
- Working knowledge of AI2HTML, animated SVGs, HTML, CSS, R and Python.
- Competent at handling data sets and using Google Sheets to create high quality data visualisations.
- Experience in multi-platform design and digital products.
- Demonstrable interest in current affairs.
- An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy.
- Ability to communicate succinctly and effectively.
- Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
- A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues.
