Job Summary

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Technician to join our Maintenance teams across London and the Thames Valley.

As a successful candidate, you will use your electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, ensuring that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician

  • Ensuring the health, safety and well‑being of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors is always the priority by demonstrating correct behaviours, complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Undertaking both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fix them or elevate, carrying out planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, and installing new plant and equipment as required, in line with current Standards and Regulations.
  • Recording work and asset information to improve business performance, identifying possible future risks and recommending changes, and raising these for resolution as needed.
  • Providing specialist technical advice where appropriate, maintaining up‑to‑date technical knowledge, and coaching, training and developing staff under supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering an excellent customer experience and positively contributing to overall customer satisfaction by interacting with all customers (internal and external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

Work Schedule

38 hours per week, Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to an additional £8,000–£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

What you should bring to the role

  • You should be a seasoned apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or possess NVQ or C&G Level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • NVQ Level 18 Edition preferred; training can be provided.
  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalate if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standardise processes.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Salary up to £42,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus a company van, tools and PPE.
