Job Introduction
We’re looking for a highly capable and forward-thinking Automation & Facilities Manager to lead the 24/7 Automation and Facilities function at our state-of-the-art Omega Distribution Centre, located at the Omega Business Park.
Omega is one of the UK’s most advanced automated logistics operations, supported by significant investment in cutting-edge automation and material flow technology in partnership with WITRON. Reporting to the Head of Automation & Engineering, you will lead a large multi-functional team responsible for automation performance, facilities management, technical cleaning, maintenance delivery, and operational continuity across the site.
Working alongside experienced technical and operational teams, you’ll drive a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring our infrastructure, automation systems, and facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. You will play a pivotal role in shaping operational performance, developing people capability, managing key service providers, and delivering strategic initiatives that support the continued growth and success of the operation.
Job Overview
- Leadership & People Management – Lead and develop the Automation, Facilities, and Technical Cleaning teams, creating a high-performance culture focused on safety, accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Automation & Asset Performance – Oversee the performance, reliability, and lifecycle management of Omega’s advanced automation systems, working closely with WITRON and internal engineering teams to maximise uptime and operational efficiency.
- Facilities & Infrastructure Management – Ensure all building infrastructure, utilities, and site services are maintained to the highest standards, supporting business continuity and statutory compliance.
- Technical Cleaning Strategy – Lead the site’s technical cleaning function, providing clear direction and leadership to ensure exceptional standards of asset care, operational reliability, and compliance across the automation estate.
- Operational Excellence – Drive the transition from reactive to proactive maintenance through effective use of CMMS and CAFM systems, ensuring robust PPM delivery and asset management practices.
- Third-Party Service Management – Manage key third-party service providers, including resident engineering contracts and specialist contractors, ensuring strong performance, accountability, SLA adherence, and continuous improvement.
- Health, Safety & Compliance – Champion health, safety, and environmental best practice, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, company standards, and safe systems of work.
- Strategic Leadership & Continuous Improvement – Lead projects, manage KPIs and budgets, support innovation, and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and operational effectiveness across the site.
- HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven leadership of multi-skilled Engineering and Facilities teams within a warehouse, automation, manufacturing, or FMCG environment.
- Strong working knowledge of automated material handling systems, SCADA, PLC-based controls, infrastructure, and facilities operations.
- Experience working with CMMS, CAFM, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Strong understanding of UK building compliance, environmental legislation, and engineering best practice.
- Proven experience managing significant budgets, contracts, and third-party service providers.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
- Ability to drive cultural change, continuous improvement, and operational excellence within a complex, fast-paced environment.
