Role purpose
As a Buyer for FINE+RARE, you will manage and develop supplier relationships as a key member of our global buying team.
This role combines commercial acumen, market insight and strong supplier engagement, with the ability to use technology and data to enhance sourcing strategy, improve commercial performance and drive operational efficiency.
The successful candidate will be systems-proficient, confident using digital tools, and able to analyse market and supplier data to support informed buying decisions, optimise supplier performance and identify new commercial opportunities.
Acting as an ambassador for FINE+RARE will be central to the role, particularly in building and strengthening direct supplier relationships, expanding our supplier network and supporting growth across existing and new markets.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, wineries, and wider sourcing networks, managing pricing, allocations and new sourcing opportunities.
- Serve as a primary point of contact between suppliers and internal teams, including Buying, Brand, Sales, and Logistics.
- Support and lead campaign planning, including En Primeur, promotional launches, and supplier-led opportunities.
- Use internal systems and digital tools to manage offers, track supplier performance, and analyse product lifecycle data.
- Ensure timely, structured communication of offers, pricing, allocations and supporting content across teams using the company’s digital platforms.
- Extract and interpret data from internal systems to assess supplier performance, inform buying decisions, and identify growth or margin opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Brand team to align supplier content with commercial campaigns and digital initiatives.
- Organise and attend supplier tastings, buying trips, and client visits to deepen supplier engagement, strengthen market insight and identify new opportunities.
- Engage with clients and the Sales team to develop a robust understanding of demand trends, client expectations, and offer performance.
- Stay current on market and competitor activity to proactively identify sourcing, pricing and margin opportunities.
Skills & experience
- Proven experience in wine buying, sourcing and supplier relationship management.
- Strong understanding of fine wine market dynamics, pricing trends and commercial performance indicators.
- Experience working in global or cross-functional teams, with the ability to collaborate across time zones.
- Highly proficient with digital systems and Excel.
- Experience with buying platforms or CRM/ERP systems is desirable.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrable ability to develop and manage strong supplier relationships.
- Educated to WSET Level 3 or above, ideally Diploma level, or currently studying towards this or studying towards this.
- Analytical and data-driven, with the ability to interpret and act on commercial insights.
- Strong organisational and negotiation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fluid and fast-paced environment, handle change, and retain a positive outlook.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work effectively across global teams.
- French, Italian or another European language would be desirable, particularly where this supports supplier relationship management across key European markets.
