We are seeking a fixed‑term consultant medical oncologist with a specialty in GI cancers to work at the Sussex Cancer Centre, Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with sessions also at Eastbourne Hospital.

The role is part of a team of 31 consultant oncologists delivering oncology services to the Sussex population across five hospital sites. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team including clinical oncologists, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists, and cancer support workers, and will be on call at the Royal Sussex County Hospital on a >1:14 rota.

nDetailed responsibilitiesn

    n

  • Run regular outpatient clinics and attend multidisciplinary meetings.
  • n

  • Prescribe and oversee SACT, plan radiotherapy, and contribute to service development.
  • n

  • Provide clinical supervision of non‑medical staff and maintain clinical governance standards.
  • n

  • Engage in ward reviews and on‑call duties.
  • n

  • Contribute actively to teaching and supervision of medical students, junior staff and AHP nurses.
  • n

  • Participate in audit projects and support junior team members.
  • n

  • Attend mandatory training updates and undertake additional training as required.
  • n

  • Develop learning plans, achieve professional standards, and participate in appraisal processes.
  • n

nExperience & Qualificationsn

    n

  • Full and specialist registration with GMC or eligibility to register within six months of interview.
  • n

  • If trained in the UK: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Oncology or within six months of receiving it.
  • n

  • If trained outside the UK: evidence of equivalent qualifications confirmed by GMC.
  • n

  • Evidence of training in a broad spectrum of clinical oncology tumour sites.
  • n

  • Interest and training suitable for a CNS cancer clinical oncology post.
  • n

nKnowledge & Planningn

    n

  • Broad experience within and outside specialty.

  • Experience working in multi‑professional teams.
  • n

  • Understanding of NHS clinical governance and resource constraints.
  • n

  • Evidence of managerial skills and achievements.
