Reporting to the CEO, you will lead the development and delivery of NHSBSA’s strategy, ensuring high quality, efficient national services that deliver value for taxpayers and support frontline care. Location: Leeds, Newcastle or Eastbourne (with regular travel to Newcastle).

nResponsibilitiesn
- n
- Lead strategic direction and accountability with the Board, shaping the vision, long‑term strategy and annual business plans.
- Develop and implement strategies to manage the NHSBSA reputation with key stakeholders.
- Head a multidisciplinary directorate to deliver strategic priorities and transformation programmes across the organisation and wider NHS landscape.
- Drive customer strategy and service improvement, ensuring the NHSBSA proposition is clear, customer‑focused and effectively communicated.
- Collaborate with business leaders to analyse strategic initiatives, devise actionable plans and monitor execution.
- Provide risk and assurance oversight, including the risk management framework, internal audit relationships and performance reporting.
- Lead system‑wide innovation and organisational culture changes aligned with national plans and Secretary of State priorities.
- Facilitate taxpayer value initiatives and cabinet‑office led activities such as ALB reviews and the taxpayer value programme.
- Build and maintain relationships with Ministers, senior NHS officials, suppliers, partners and other key stakeholders.

nQualificationsn
- n
- Master’s degree level education in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a large complex organisation at board level.
- MBA or other advanced degree desirable.

nPersonal qualities, knowledge and skillsn
- n
- Detailed understanding of public sector corporate governance and critical strategic, operational and organisational initiatives.
- Robust knowledge of the wider commercial environment and market dynamics.
- Extensive experience at board level within NHS, regulatory or commercial settings.
- Commercial and political astuteness, able to analyse business data and drive growth.
- Experience developing policies, services and strategies to improve healthcare delivery.
- Significant programme management experience at senior responsible officer or project director level.
- Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Track record in building professional relationships with key partners and customers.
- Ability to present to national and local media, senior leaders and ministers.

nExperiencen
- n
- Extensive executive management experience in the private or public sector at board level, within a large complex organisation.
- Experience of partnering with local authorities, healthcare organisations and the wider public sector at senior level.
- Proven record of leading long‑term change and transformation.
- Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, assurance models (including three‑lines of assurance) and internal audit processes.
- Successful management of business programmes producing national benefits, such as cost reduction or process improvement.
- Experience commissioning rigorous, commercially based service contract arrangements.
