Reporting to the CEO, you will lead the development and delivery of NHSBSA’s strategy, ensuring high quality, efficient national services that deliver value for taxpayers and support frontline care. A trusted advisor to the CEO and Board, you will bring insight, innovation and commercial acumen to drive growth, transformation and long‑term success.

Location: Leeds, Newcastle or Eastbourne (with regular travel to Newcastle).

nResponsibilitiesn

    n

  • Lead strategic direction and accountability with the Board, shaping the vision, long‑term strategy and annual business plans.
  • n

  • Develop and implement strategies to manage the NHSBSA reputation with key stakeholders.
  • n

  • Head a multidisciplinary directorate to deliver strategic priorities and transformation programmes across the organisation and wider NHS landscape.
  • n

  • Drive customer strategy and service improvement, ensuring the NHSBSA proposition is clear, customer‑focused and effectively communicated.
  • n

  • Collaborate with business leaders to analyse strategic initiatives, devise actionable plans and monitor execution.
  • n

  • Provide risk and assurance oversight, including the risk management framework, internal audit relationships and performance reporting.
  • n

  • Lead system‑wide innovation and organisational culture changes aligned with national plans and Secretary of State priorities.
  • n

  • Facilitate taxpayer value initiatives and cabinet‑office led activities such as ALB reviews and the taxpayer value programme.
  • n

  • Build and maintain relationships with Ministers, senior NHS officials, suppliers, partners and other key stakeholders.
  • n

nQualificationsn

    n

  • Master’s degree level education in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a large complex organisation at board level.
  • n

  • MBA or other advanced degree desirable.
  • n

nPersonal qualities, knowledge and skillsn

    n

  • Detailed understanding of public sector corporate governance and critical strategic, operational and organisational initiatives.
  • n

  • Robust knowledge of the wider commercial environment and market dynamics.
  • n

  • Extensive experience at board level within NHS, regulatory or commercial settings.
  • n

  • Commercial and political astuteness, able to analyse business data and drive growth.
  • n

  • Experience developing policies, services and strategies to improve healthcare delivery.
  • n

  • Significant programme management experience at senior responsible officer or project director level.
  • n

  • Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • n

  • Track record in building professional relationships with key partners and customers.
  • n

  • Ability to present to national and local media, senior leaders and ministers.
  • n

nExperiencen

    n

  • Extensive executive management experience in the private or public sector at board level, within a large complex organisation.
  • n

  • Experience of partnering with local authorities, healthcare organisations and the wider public sector at senior level.
  • n

  • Proven record of leading long‑term change and transformation.
  • n

  • Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, assurance models (including three‑lines of assurance) and internal audit processes.
  • n

  • Successful management of business programmes producing national benefits, such as cost reduction or process improvement.
  • n

  • Experience commissioning rigorous, commercially based service contract arrangements.
