Eligibility Criteria
A doctor appointed to this grade must:
- Have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC);
- Have completed at least four years of full‑time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full‑time or flexible basis), at least two of which must be in a specialty training programme or a specialty registrar locum appointment for training (LAT);
- Or have equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas.

Job Title: Speciality doctor in Ophthalmology
Department: Head and Neck Ophthalmology
The post is based in St John’s Hospital and Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion; the post holder may also be required to work at any NHS Lothian site.
This post offers wide clinical experience in the management of all simple and complex acute ophthalmology problems in a busy department. The ophthalmology department covers all the major subspecialties and the post holder will benefit from specialist input from the respective consultants for cases requiring specialist input. In addition, the post holder will have the opportunity to develop their cataract skill and undertake high‑volume surgery.
