About the role
Be part of a supportive, dynamic team at Fletchers, where your expertise helps clients manage life‑changing compensation awards. We are seeking a dedicated Court of Protection Solicitor to assist and lead our Court of Protection department, providing deputyship and trustee support to clients with personal injury or clinical negligence claims involving substantial compensation awards.
Key Responsibilities
- Run your own caseload of Deputyship and Trustee matters, both pre‑ and post‑settlement of the PI claim.
- Supervise junior fee earners and provide technical support to the team.
- Attend clients at their homes, hospitals or care/nursing homes to discuss and agree budgets and identify other priorities.
- Liaise with financial advisors on investments.
- Prepare accurate accounts of Deputyship cases, including forecasting expenditure and creating budgets to ensure funding sustainability.
- Manage Deputyship applications and other associated applications to the Court of Protection.
- Delegate and supervise tasks to junior team members where appropriate.
- Carry out staff supervision, including regular meetings and appraisals.
- Contribute to regular team meetings and training sessions.
- Attend conferences with counsel, meetings with clients and court outside standard hours when required.
- Take part in business development activities and contribute ideas and articles.
Qualifications and Experience
- 0–4 years PQE in Court of Protection, property & affairs work.
- Experience of setting up and running PI trusts.
- Experience of making applications for statutory wills, gifts, etc.
- Strong empathetic interpersonal skills and ability to deal with a range of people with disabilities, their families and the care team, as well as other legal professionals.
- High degree of professionalism, pride in your work, and commitment to achieving clients’ goals.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to lead and manage a growing team in line with company budgets and department KPIs.
- Enthusiasm for team building and raising the internal and external profile of the team.
- Ability to train and develop others.
- Excellent time management, organisational skills and ability to work within deadlines.
- Compliance with office manual procedures.
- Resilient and able to manage challenging situations.
- Full clean driving licence desirable.
