This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.
What it’s like to work here
The role typically reports to the Curator, and you would also be a part of Dyrham’s Property Leadership Team placing you at the heart of decision‑making for the property. It’s a chance to combine leadership, heritage expertise and creativity in a supportive environment where your work genuinely matters—to the place, the team and every visitor who walks through the doors.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll lead and support the Collections and House Team, overseeing the care of the collections, managing the daily opening of the house, and ensuring visitors consistently enjoy an excellent experience. You’ll maintain outstanding standards in conservation, presentation, and compliance. By leading from the front, you’ll foster a culture of inclusive, high‑quality service, helping people of all backgrounds connect with conservation, interpretation, and the Trust’s values. You’ll also take overall responsibility for the house volunteers, developing their skills and creating an indoor volunteering experience that is as flexible, inclusive, and rewarding as possible.
Who we’re looking for
- Proven experience leading and inspiring teams, including volunteers, to deliver excellent results
- Strong understanding of caring for historic collections or heritage assets, balancing conservation with public access
- Experience managing operations, planning projects and working within budgets
- Good knowledge of health, safety and risk management in a public‑facing environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders
- Commitment to creating inclusive, accessible experiences and supporting our conservation and sustainability ambitions
