Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of major transport projects that connect communities, boost economies, and improve everyday journeys.
  • Drive smarter, safer, and more efficient design solutions while mentoring the next generation of engineers and influencing large-scale project delivery.
  • Manage and lead small project teams, supporting their technical development.
  • Apply and interpret design standards such as the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and international equivalents.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate technical, safety, and programme risks.
  • Maintain sound knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and foster a culture of safety and well‑being.
  • Oversee the financial management and control of projects, including cost estimating and monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualification, such as a degree in engineering, CEng, or IEng.
  • Track record of delivering local and/or major highway projects or relevant work in adjacent markets such as water or aviation.
  • Experience in leading small project teams and supporting their technical development.
  • Strong understanding of road and bridge design standards, including DMRB or relevant international equivalents.
  • Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and a commitment to safety.
  • Experience in financial management and control of projects.
