History & Heritage Volunteer – Portishead

Location: Portishead, Police Headquarters, Valley Road, Portishead – BS20 8QJ

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the storage, cleaning and labelling of items in the archive, including uniforms, photographs, documents and equipment.
  • Arrange and rotate displays of uniforms and artefacts in the force museum, including signage and information sheets.
  • Engage positively with internal and external stakeholders by delivering talks or presentations on the force’s History and Heritage.
  • Maintain the History and Heritage electronic archive: add new entries, perform regular backups, improve data quality, and share archive content as appropriate.
  • Scan and transcribe hard‑copy documents for future preservation.
  • Monitor the group mailbox and respond to enquiries in a professional manner.
  • Arrange collection of donations using the ASC resource.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings of the H&H Group electronically or in person.

Required skills and experience

  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with Outlook (training will be provided).
  • Ability to collate and present information to diverse audiences.
  • Passion for preserving and sharing the history of policing.

All applicants will be subject to the Force Vetting Policy, must undertake and maintain safeguarding training, and are required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS) every three years.
