Primary Location: UK – St Albans, 10 Bricket Road
Job Description
Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Structural Engineer. You can be based in one of our UK offices whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.
We are delivering an exciting portfolio of high‑value capital programmes and projects through long‑term frameworks with major clients in the water sector. Our direct clients include most major water companies, and also a number of Tier 1 contractors working in the sector. Our projects cover new and upgraded clean and wastewater networks, and all scales of treatment works upgrades. The variety of work and clients, combined with ambitious AMP8 programmes from our clients makes this an exciting time to join the AECOM team, and a fantastic opportunity to develop your career as a technical leader, delivering solutions on a diverse range of projects that meet the technical challenges of today and tomorrow.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Technical Excellence: You will deploy technical excellence in the design of a wide range of heavy civil engineering structures, from deep below ground pumping stations to large above ground water‑retaining concrete structures, and complex piled foundations to steel‑framed buildings.
- Deliver: Using your experience, knowledge and judgement, you will develop structural solutions to interesting and often complex challenges. You will lead and oversee detailed design activities by others, as well as prepare detailed designs yourself.
- Expertise: You will challenge the norm, identifying and implementing innovative ideas, best practice and new ways of thinking and working to help deliver value for our clients.
- Lead: You will lead the structural design of projects as well as mentor and support the professional development of team members. Through your leadership you will foster positive client relationships.
- Communicate: You will be the interface with other project design disciplines and harness your excellent communication skills when dealing with clients and other project stakeholders.
- Documentation: You will be involved in the preparation and reviewing high‑quality drawings, calculations, specifications and reports to communicate solutions.
- Quality: Quality will be central to everything you do. You will review and sign‑off project deliverables with a focus on compliance and efficiency.
Enjoy the perks: at AECOM, you’ll enjoy a range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well‑being, customised to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work‑life balance that suits your lifestyle, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days. We recognise that everyone’s circumstances are different, so we’re more than happy to discuss part‑time or flexible working arrangements.
