The appointee will complete a 12‑month placement within Trauma and cross‑cover Acute General Surgery on call. This is a standalone Foundation Year 1 post that is suitable for any medical graduate with full GMC registration. The post offers robust clinical experience, including emergency takes, inpatient and day‑surgery lists, clerking, ward rounds, and discharge summaries. It provides a smooth transition into F2 training or Junior Clinical Fellow posts.
Main duties of the job
- Take patient histories and perform routine examinations
- Communicate with patients and family members
- Provide day‑to‑day medical care under supervision
- Clerking of patients admitted on emergency take days
- Participate in inpatient and day‑surgery operating lists
- Request investigations and treatments for patients
- Attend and undertake ward rounds as required
- Provide cover for colleagues during emergencies, annual and study leave
- Train medical students attached to the firm
- Write discharge summaries to promote liaison with general practitioners
- Liaise with patients’ relatives

- Provide 24/7 cover (rotational basis) and cover colleagues’ leave and sickness periods

- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control policies and uphold patient safety standards
