The role

Flight Safety Performance Specialist sits within the Flight Operations Technical team and plays a key role in supporting British Airways’ Management System. The team is responsible for monitoring safety performance, identifying emerging risks, assessing the effectiveness of safety controls, and providing evidence-based insight that supports operational decision‑making. Through the analysis of safety reports, Flight Data Monitoring data and other operational safety data, the team helps ensure that Flight Operations maintains a proactive, risk‑based approach to aviation safety management and continuous improvement.

What you’ll do

  • Monitor and analyse aviation safety performance using data from operational safety sources, safety reports and Flight Data Monitoring systems.
  • Produce dashboards, scorecards and analytical evidence to support Flight Operations safety governance and assurance activities.
  • Provide performance insight and analytical support to safety investigations led by Flight Operations Technical, without assuming investigation ownership.
  • Assess safety trends, precursors and safety control effectiveness to support proactive, risk‑based safety management.
  • Support the monitoring and effectiveness review of Risk Action Plans (RAPs) and Management of Change (MoC) activities through robust performance evidence.
  • Provide safety performance insight to support Evidence‑Based Training (EBT), safety promotion initiatives and organisational learning programmes.
  • Deliver flexible analytical support across Flight Operations safety priorities, including ad‑hoc projects and emerging business requirements.

What you’ll bring to British Airways

  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex operational and safety datasets.
  • Ability to visualise and communicate safety performance data through dashboards, scorecards and clear written narratives.
  • Understanding of aviation safety principles, including safety reports, safety precursors and barrier effectiveness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A curious and investigative mindset with a desire to understand the factors driving safety performance.
  • Evidence‑driven approach, comfortable working with ambiguity and incomplete information.
  • Pragmatic, resilient and delivery‑focused, able to operate effectively in a fast‑paced safety‑critical environment.
  • High levels of integrity and professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Flexible, agile and collaborative, demonstrating a positive and proactive approach to challenges.
  • Interest in, or understanding of, aviation operations and safety management principles.

Your experience

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative, engineering, scientific or operational discipline.
  • Experience working with safety, engineering or performance data within a regulated environment (desirable).
  • Exposure to statistical methods through academic study or practical application (desirable).
  • Working knowledge of descriptive statistics and basic inferential techniques (desirable).
  • Experience in, or exposure to, aviation operations, aviation safety or flight operations environments (desirable).
