Platform Engineer

Yeovil HQ (3-4 days a week with condensed hours)

Up to £900 p/d Inside IR35

DV clearance is ideal but SC considered for the right candidate

We are supporting a Defence prime based in the Yeovil area with multiple DV cleared positions, these roles are working within a classified environment, so we are only able to consider candidates with ideally DV clearance but will consider SC for experienced candidates with the relevant experience.

As a Principal Platform Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of designing, building and evolving enterprise-scale software-defined platforms that enable our customers to operate with confidence in some of the most demanding environments.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead the architecture, design and implementation of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platforms.
• Design secure software-defined datacentre solutions across compute, storage and networking.
• Capture and translate customer requirements into robust technical designs and implementation plans.
• Own technical delivery for complex work packages, providing estimates, technical oversight and progress reporting.
• Champion secure-by-design principles throughout the engineering lifecycle.
• Mentor and develop engineers, sharing knowledge and raising technical capability across the wider team.
• Work closely with customers and stakeholders to present solutions and influence technical decisions.
• Contribute to technical strategy, innovation and future platform capabilities.

What we’re looking for

• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), including vSphere, vSAN, NSX and Aria Suite.
• VMware virtualisation technologies and software-defined datacentre platforms.
• Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Platform networking including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing and firewalls.
• NSX, network virtualisation and micro-segmentation.
• Secure platform engineering within enterprise, government or defence environments.
• Systems engineering across the full delivery lifecycle.
• Integrating compute, storage and networking into enterprise platforms.
• VMware VCAP certification.
• AWS or other cloud platform experience.
• Infrastructure as Code and DevSecOps practices.
• Experience with VxRail and hyper-converged infrastructure.
• VCF lifecycle automation, upgrades and patching.
• Active Directory, PKI, PAM, SIEM and enterprise monitoring integrations. Kubernetes and container platform experience.
