Python Engineer

4 Months | Watford (Hybrid)

We’re looking for a Senior Python Engineer to join a team building and evolving a high-performance, real-time data platform.

This is a hands-on backend engineering role focused on designing, improving and maintaining production-grade Python services that process high-volume, time-series data. It is not a data science or analytics position.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing, building and enhancing Python backend services
• Improving existing codebases with a focus on maintainability, performance and reliability
• Identifying opportunities to simplify architecture and improve software design
• Debugging complex production issues and implementing robust solutions
• Writing clean, well-tested, production-quality code
• Building automated tests and contributing to overall code quality
• Working with engineers to review solutions, discuss technical trade-offs and drive engineering best practice
• Deploying services using Azure Functions or Docker on AKS

Core Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

• Experience designing and maintaining production-grade software
• Demonstrable experience:
  • Designing data models for time-based querying
  • Optimising queries and handling large datasets
  • Strong understanding of software design principles, code quality and testing
  • Experience debugging complex applications and identifying root causes
  • Comfortable reviewing existing code, making pragmatic improvements and explaining technical decisions
  • Experience balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability

• ADX / Kusto or InfluxDB
