Job Title

Forward Deployed AI Engineer – Barclays Legal Technology

Purpose of the Role

Design, develop and improve software that delivers business, platform and technology capabilities for the Legal function. Work at the forefront of AI adoption, partnering with lawyers, business stakeholders and technology teams to build AI‑powered solutions that transform how legal services are delivered.

Responsibilities

• Develop high‑quality, scalable, maintainable and performance‑optimised software using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration with business objectives.
• Lead technical discovery, solution design, prototyping, engineering and deployment across the full delivery lifecycle.
• Deliver client‑facing technical leadership, translating business challenges into innovative AI solutions and driving adoption of large language models, agentic AI and intelligent workflow automation.
• Maintain secure coding practices, implement comprehensive unit testing and apply effective risk‑mitigation controls to protect sensitive data.
• Participate in code reviews, promote a culture of code quality and share knowledge across teams.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to build trusting partnerships, influence outcomes and provide strategic guidance.
• Support the Legal AI strategy, contributing to next‑generation capabilities that augment legal professionals and improve operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Advanced experience with AI/ML technologies (e.g., Anthropic Claude, OpenAI) and Python.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS cloud architecture (Lambda, S3, ECS, API Gateway).
• Client‑facing technical leadership and strong communication skills.
• Data engineering experience and ability to create DevOps pipelines using AWS.
• Experience with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is highly valued.
• Demonstrated ability to manage risk, apply governance controls and adhere to security standards.
• Capable of working with diverse stakeholders and delivering measurable business value.
