Overview
A Deputy IT Technical Operations Lead acts as a senior, hands‑on deputy to the Head of Technical Operations Lead, combining technical expertise with team leadership to ensure the stability, security, and efficiency of IT infrastructure. The role includes project delivery, operational excellence, incident support, and mentoring staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Deputise for the Technical Operations Lead, overseeing daily IT operations, including monitoring and maintaining infrastructure (networks, servers, cloud) to ensure high availability.
- Line manage or support the development of IT staff, conducting 1‑2‑1s, performance reviews, and identifying training needs to foster a high‑performance culture.
- Serve as a technical point of escalation for high‑priority incidents, performing root‑cause analysis and driving resolution.
- Oversee technical projects, system updates, and security implementations such as patching, backups and firewall management.
- Represent the Technical Operations Lead in meetings and review high‑level and low‑level design documents for Agile Change and Core Services.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5‑6+ years of experience in IT support, infrastructure/network engineering, or technical operations with proven team leadership.
- Strong knowledge of network infrastructure (VPNs, VLANs, firewalls, DNS), Microsoft products, server administration, storage/hardware, and monitoring tools.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, and mentor team members.
- Familiarity with ITSM tools (e.g., Jira Service Desk, ServiceNow) and ITIL methodologies.
- Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, Microsoft certifications, or relevant networking certifications (e.g., Cisco) are desirable.
Typical Working Relationships
- Reports to: Technical Operations Lead.
- Collaborates with: Project Managers, Service Desk Agents, Security Teams, and External Vendors.
