OUR VALUES IN ACTION
Compassion, Kindness, Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence
We in the Hospital @ Night team have two exciting opportunities.
Role Overview
We are looking for nurses or paramedics with extensive experience in an acute/on‑the‑road setting. Prior applicants need not apply. Experience for nurses may include ED, ITU, HDU, Trauma, Surgical, or Medical.
You should be a registered Nurse or Paramedic with an interest in Advanced Practice and professional development. We will support you to gain an advanced practice qualification via QMU or Napier University. Where appropriate, the role will be offered at Band 6 (annex 21) to secure increments for years 1 and 2 of qualification, then progression to Band 7 ANP upon qualification.
The successful delivery of safe, effective, and efficient person‑centred care relies on our Advanced Care Practitioners having transformational leadership qualities, resilience, adaptability, working closely as part of a multidisciplinary team, and valuing all members of the Hospital at Night service.
If You Are a Qualified ACP
Individuals meeting the requirements of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner will commence or continue on Band 7.

Professional Development and Support
Whether you’re early in your career or looking to take the next step into a more senior role, NHS Borders offers a supportive environment where you can grow, influence change, and make a real impact.
Work Eligibility
To work in the United Kingdom, a legal requirement exists for an individual to demonstrate relevant permission to work. This is granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK as part of pre‑employment checks. This can be evidenced through various routes including visas, EU settled and pre‑settled status, and other conditions.
For specific types of posts, if you do not have the necessary eligibility, it may be possible to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. This is only possible if the employer is a licensed Sponsor and the post meets salary thresholds and “going rate.”
It is essential that you have checked that you either already have the appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application.
Please note: We cannot accept late applications, so please submit early.
Equality and Diversity
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among its workforce, eliminating unlawful discrimination, and ensuring the workforce is truly representative and respectful of all individuals. All sections of society are welcomed.
AI Application Guidance
- Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
- Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar but do not let it write the answers.
- Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI‑generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.
Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
