Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Nurse to join our friendly and supportive Acute Medicine team on Ward L2, specialising in gastroenterology and hepatology nursing. Ward L2 is a 24-bed unit caring for patients with hepato‑biliary conditions, IBS, and substance misuse issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient care needs and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
- Act as the named nurse for a defined group of patients while also supporting the care of all patients within the unit.
- Provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based care.
- Support the Ward/Unit Manager in the effective running of the department and deputise in their absence.
- Motivate and inspire staff to achieve high standards of care and support the delivery of the Trust’s objectives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Band 5 nursing registration (or equivalent).
- Strong interest in acute gastroenterology nursing.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to perform well in a fast‑paced setting.
- Flexible working accepted, including weekends and bank holidays.
Professional Development & Support

You will be supported by a multidisciplinary team comprising our Practice Development Team, Supervisory Ward Sisters, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, hepato‑biliary specialist nurses, a dedicated Discharge Coordinator and 12 specialist Consultants. A supernumerary period is provided to help you develop the skills and competencies needed to care for acutely ill patients.
