Job Overview

The Liaison Psychiatry Service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is seeking a Band 6 or Band 5-6 Developmental Liaison Psychiatry Practitioner. The role will be based across hospital sites in Burton on Trent, Lichfield and Tamworth, with travel between sites expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality mental health assessment, risk assessment and treatment for patients presenting with a mental health issue within a physical healthcare setting.
  • Provide indirect patient care via formal and informal consultancy, supporting acute Trust staff in relation to mental health and wellbeing.
  • Conduct specialist assessment and care planning in conjunction with service users and carers; evaluate individual treatment plans and discharge planning.
  • Facilitate the timely and safe discharge of patients from the hospital, enabling staff to manage risks related to mental health in the acute environment.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care based on patients’ individual needs.
  • Effectively communicate care plans and any changes to the person, their family or carer, and clinical colleagues involved in care.
  • Undertake skilled and robust risk assessments.
  • Promote positive risk‑taking, where appropriate, to improve quality of life and maximise occupational performance and independence.
  • Deliver a range of interventions in accordance with the agreed plan of care and pathway guidance.

Work Schedule

Shifts cover 24/7 on a shift rota with travel between sites. Flexible working arrangements will be considered.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must be fully qualified professionals in Nursing (RMN, RN or LD Nurse), Occupational Therapy or Social Work, and be registered with the relevant professional body. Band 5-6 candidates will receive support to achieve a core set of competencies over 6–12 months, after which they will progress to Band 6.
