Role Overview
As the link psychologist for the Learning Disability and Autism (LD‑A) ward, you will coordinate all psychological and psychotherapeutic input to service users on the ward. All service‑users will have a learning disability, with or without autism, in addition to offending or otherwise challenging behaviour, mental health problems and often personality disorder and substance‑use problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine the psychological and psychotherapeutic needs of service users and coordinate the provision of these services.
- Work alongside an arts psychotherapist, positive behaviour support practitioner, assistant psychologist and other MDT members to share assessments and treatments.
- Oversee comprehensive assessment of service‑users’ needs.
- Ensure systematic involvement of friends, family, community teams and other agencies in the care and treatment process.
Qualifications and Experience
- Clinical, forensic or counselling psychologist with HCPC registration.
- Previous experience working with people with intellectual impairments, with or without autism.
- Experience working in forensic settings and/or neuropsychological assessment is highly desirable.
- Experience working systemically with friends, family and multiple agencies and a focus on coproduction and empowerment.
Benefits and Working Conditions
Band 7, 8a or 8b level depending on qualifications and experience. Structured training schedule for lower banding levels. Working hours up to a maximum of 32 hours per week. Fixed‑term (12‑month) post covering maternity leave.
