Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide dedicated engineering support to our freeze dryer fleet. Reporting to the Freeze Dryer Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability, performance, and compliance of critical equipment within a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This is a hands‑on role focused on fault finding, upgrades, and equipment lifecycle management, with strong involvement in improvement and project activities.
Responsibilities
- Act as a key engineering contact for freeze dryers, supporting day‑to‑day operations and long‑term improvements
- Diagnose and resolve electrical faults, carrying out structured root cause investigations
- Deliver electrical and mechanical upgrades, including components such as drives, motors, valves, actuators, and control systems
- Identify obsolete equipment and implement reliable replacement solutions
- Support installation, modification, testing, and commissioning of new or upgraded systems
- Contribute to small‑medium upgrade projects, ensuring delivery to scope and standards
- Participate in Change Control / Management of Change (MoC) processes
- Ensure all work complies with GMP, EHS, and engineering standards
- Maintain accurate documentation, including reports, drawings, and commissioning records
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and uptime
Qualifications
- Qualification in Electrical or Electrical & Electronic Engineering (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent)
- Strong experience in industrial electrical fault finding, with the ability to interpret drawings and technical documentation
- Hands‑on experience with control panels, power distribution, motors, drives (VSDs), sensors, and instrumentation
- Experience of electrically driven mechanical systems (e.g. actuators, valves, door mechanisms)
- Strong understanding of electrical safety and isolation practices, with good IT skills (Microsoft Office)
- Experience within regulated or pharmaceutical environments, with knowledge of GMP, Change Control, and MoC (desirable)
- Experience supporting equipment upgrades or projects, ideally including mechanical and electrical modifications
- Practical, methodical, and proactive engineer with strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively across teams
