Electrical Design Engineer (HV LV) – Coventry

£52,000 – £60,000 per annum

Hybrid Working

Our client is a highly successful multi‑utilities business that has been trading for the last 14 years. Due to continued success, the company is expanding its Electrical Design team.

Main Activities and Duties

  • Design tailored HV and LV electrical network solutions and earthing assessments for domestic, commercial, and industrial developments, including single line diagrams, circuit diagrams, general arrangements, wiring diagrams, block cable diagrams/schedules, and cable specification/sizing calculations.
  • Obtain approval for individual network design solutions and power distribution earthing.
  • Provide specialist electrical network and substation engineering advice to project stakeholders.
  • Participate in multi‑utility design handovers to the Operations Department, offering ongoing support and guidance through to final network connection.
  • Ensure technical compliance of electrical network designs to meet client requirements and company quality standards, including compliance with DNO/IDNO policy, ENA documentation, CDM Regulation, codes of practice, international standards, legislation, company policy, procedures, contract specifications, and safety compliance.
  • Prioritise workflow to deliver high‑quality network designs and projects accurately, on time, and within budget, enhancing the company’s professional image and reputation.
  • Conduct internal technical peer review of designs prior to submission.
  • Liaise closely with Utility Infrastructure Providers, equipment manufacturers, and DNOs/IDNOs.
  • Support the Tendering Department and, where required, provide outline designs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Engage with gas and water designers to coordinate delivery of multi‑utility design projects.
  • Mentor, coach, and guide trainee engineers.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Suitable engineering qualification (Degree, HND, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience designing LV and HV electrical networks.
  • Experience designing and planning LV and HV electrical utility network infrastructure and substation design.
  • Good understanding of the UK power industry, technical standards, DNO/IDNO network construction requirements, and G81 documents.
  • Knowledge of technical specifications of equipment, substations, cables, and plant.
  • Understanding of DNO protection requirements – desirable.
  • Understanding of current NERS requirements and ability to provide compliance support.
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and NRSWwA.
  • Knowledge of ISO 09001, ISO 14001 and ISO.
  • Ability to prioritise workflow to ensure projects are completed accurately, on time, within budget, and in accordance with KPI metrics.
  • Effective engagement and communication with clients, providing progress updates and exceeding expectations where possible.
