About the Role

We are looking for a driven and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our site engineering function and play a key role within the senior operations team. You’ll be responsible for ensuring plant reliability, delivering capital projects, and driving continuous improvement across engineering and site performance. This is a high‑impact leadership role with real opportunity to influence operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the engineering team to deliver strong site performance.
  • Ensure planned maintenance strategies maximise plant efficiency and minimise downtime.
  • Manage engineering budgets and control costs in line with site objectives.
  • Deliver capital projects on time and within budget, ensuring ROI.
  • Drive continuous improvement across equipment, processes and energy usage.
  • Maintain compliance with all Health & Safety, food safety and audit standards.
  • Ensure effective spare parts management to support operational continuity.
  • Work closely with production teams to optimise plant performance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe systems of work at all times.
  • Support and develop team capability through training and performance management.

Essential Criteria

  • Dual‑skilled Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical).
  • Proven experience in a leadership/line management role.
  • Strong engineering background within manufacturing (food industry).
  • Excellent organisational, communication and team‑building skills.
  • Financial awareness with experience managing budgets.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, including Root Cause Analysis.
  • Knowledge of key safety systems (LOTO, Permit to Work, Working at Height, Confined Space).
  • Relevant qualifications (C&G/NVQ or equivalent).

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within a cooked meats or food manufacturing environment.
  • IOSH / NEBOSH certification.
  • HACCP Level 3 / Food Safety Level 3/4.
  • Knowledge of TACCP, Legionella, LOLER.
  • Experience as Electrical or Asbestos Duty Holder.
